Sign up for the CG Golf Scramble

The next CG Golf Scramble is Thursday at the Fort Benning Golf Course with a shotgun start at noon. The cost is $30 if paid in advance or $35 the day of the event.

Tryout for youth baseball

Registration and tryouts for Child Youth & School Services baseball teams is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Youth Sports Complex across from Faith Middle School on Ingersoll Street. The league is open to ages 8-14.

Burn calories at Haiti bootcamp benefit

Personal trainers in the tricommunity and the American Red Cross are teaming up to host Hearts for Haiti, a bootcamp session from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Feb. 20 on Broadway in Columbus.

All of the proceeds from the event will go to the Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund.

The camp is open to people ages 16 and older. The cost is $20 and registration will begin at 8 a.m. on the day of the event. Participants can preregister at www.columbusgabootcamp.com.

Offer your skills as a youth soccer coach

Child, Youth, & School Services needs four soccer coaches for the 3- and 4-year-olds, one for the 5- and 6-year-olds and one for the 7- and 8-year-olds. Practice is twice a week and games are on Saturdays.

Challenger little league baseball sign-ups are soon

Army Community Service’s Exceptional Family Member Program has an agreement with the District 8 Little League/Challenger to offer recreation baseball to military families with school-age special-needs children.

This league provides team activities for children ages 6-21 who are physically and mentally disabled.

The regular season runs April through May. Registration is Feb. 27 and March 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Psalmond Road Recreation Center. Opening ceremonies are April 17 at Northern Little League Field off Psalmond Road. For more information, call 706-545-5521 or 706-544-1170. ACS wants your moneysaving tips

Do you have money saving tips that have worked for you? Why not share them with others. In observance of Military Saves Week, Feb. 22-28, ACS Financial Readiness Program is seeking the “Best of the Best” tips on how to save big.

Financial Readiness will collect your ideas through February 23 and publish and distribute them throughout the community.

Military Saves is a national campaign to encourage individuals to build wealth through savings and debt reduction.

Would you like to learn how to save time and money on your grocery shopping? ACS Financial Readiness Program presents “Saving Money at the Supermarket.” Come learn when and where to find the best prices, how to eat more while paying less, and how to make the most of coupons. Join us from 9-11 a.m. Feb. 23 in Building 2626 for money-saving ideas, cheap yet tasty recipes and the inside scoop on how grocery stores do their pricing. “Saving Money at the Supermarket” is brought to you in observance of Military Saves Week, a national campaign to encourage individuals to build wealth through savings and debt reduction.

Buy Girl Scout cookies

Girl Scouts will sell cookies at the Main Post PX, Commissary and various shopettes Saturday through March 6. Cookies cost $3.50 per box and help fund programs and activities for Girl Scouts at Fort Benning.

Take your kids to story time

Fort Benning Parent to Parent will offer a story time Friday and Feb. 24 at the Donovan Library as part of its early literacy program. The featured book will be The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle. The library is located next to the commissary. For more information, call 706-504-9857.

BOSS meeting coming up

Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers holds the monthly BOSS installation meeting on Feb. 24 at the Kelley Hill Recreation Center, Building 9079, at 2 p.m.

Make an appointment for photos

The Training Support Center Visual Information Branch is available to take Department of the Army and command photos Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 11 a.m. by appointment. Photos and pictures for Immigration and Naturalization Service, visa and official travel passport are scheduled through Sissy Hines, training and audio visual officer, at 706-545-2133 and not through the VIOS site.

Buy gear at the reclamation sale

A reclamation sale will he held from 8 a.m. to noon March 5 inside Building 224A on Upton Avenue. One pair of boots and two sets of uniforms per authorized patron. National Guard and Army Reserve Soldiers on active status must have duty orders.

Retirees are authorized to purchase IPFU and PT sets. The first hour of the sale is designated for personnel E-6 and below only. There is a limit of $300 per customer and buyers must pay cash. For more information, call 706-545-1972.

Learn to be your own health care advocate

The Department of Family Medicine offers voluntary, interactive sessions to enlist and validate patients as their own caregivers and address concerns.

All group visits are held at Martin Army Community Hospital in the Department of Family Medicine’s Connelly Conference Room. Future meeting topics include: “Herbal Supplements: Helpful and Harmful,” 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 16 and “Treatment of Osteoarthritis,” 2 to 4 p.m. March 2.

Appointments are not required. You must be a Tricare beneficiary to attend.

Learn how to be a safe driver

The Liberty Theatre Youth Leadership Council will sponsor a safe driving workshop from noon to 2 p.m. on Feb. 20 at the Liberty Theatre, 821 8th Ave. State Farm insurance representative Jimmy Watts will host the event.

Check out the book sale this weekend

The Columbus Public Library will host a two-day Friends of Libraries used book sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the CB&T-Synovus Room. More than 4,000 books will be on sale. Book genres will include romance, mystery, history and biology as well as books for children and young adults. A booth will sell rare books. Money raised will help support library programs such as The BIG READ.

Rails-to-Trails project looking for a name

The Columbus Consolidated Government is accepting contest entries to choose a name for the newly designed pedestrian and biking trail. The grand-prize winner, second-place and third-place finishers will receive prizes.
