ATLANTA — In what has been a busier-than-normal offseason, Georgia Tech on Saturday reached the end of its monthlong coaching carousel.
In a statement released by school officials, the Yellow Jackets announced the hiring of Navy assistant Joe Speed to take over the coaching duties of the programs inside linebackers. Newly hired defensive coordinator Al Groh will lead the outside linebackers in a 3-4 base defensive scheme that will look drastically different than last years linemen and defensive back heavy system.
As the ninth member of Georgia Techs coaching staff, Speeds hire is the Yellow Jackets last addition
Speed has spent the last eight seasons at Navy, including six while current Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson was a coach there. Johnson left Annapolis, Md. for the Flats in December 2007.
