Carver, Kendrick, Jordan or Spencer students interested in changing schools under the federal No Child Left Behind Act can begin submitting their applications for a transfer today.
The Muscogee County School District mailed out transfer applications to parents today. Parents and students have until March 5 to apply for a No Child Left Behind Transfer.
Based on their test scores and graduation rates, Carver, Jordan, Spencer and Kendrick high schools have not made adequate yearly progress under the federal No Child Left Behind Act for at least two years and are designated Needs Improvement. They are also Title I schools, meaning they have a large number of students from low-income families.
According to federal law, students in Title I schools that are in Needs Improvement can transfer to better-performing schools in the district.
Students can apply to transfer to Hardaway High or Northside High.
Freshman and sophomore students who choose to transfer will be housed in annex campuses. Hardaway students will be on Jordan's campus and Northside students will be at Kendrick's campus. Juniors and seniors who transfer will be housed in the main campuses of Hardaway and Northside. The main campuses will also house all magnet students and current Hardaway and Northside students.
Students who do not wish to transfer schools do not have to fill out applications. Transfer assignments will be mailed out March 26. Parents and students have until April 23 to refuse a transfer assignment.
