Students from Kendrick, Columbus, Hardaway and Chattahoochee County high schools compete in state academic decathlon

Teams from four local high schools will compete in the Georgia Academic Decathlon, hosted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, on February 26 and 27 at Berkmar High School in Gwinnett County.

Teams from Hardaway High, Columbus High and Kendrick High in Muscogee County and Chattahoochee County High in Chattahoochee County will compete in the decathlon. The PAGE decathlon is an event in with teams of students compete in 10 events, individually as well as a team. Each teams has nine members -- three "A" students, three "B" students and three "C" students.

This year's theme is "The French Revolution." Students are tested in seven content areas: economics, art, language and literature, mathematics, science, music and the Super Quiz. Students also gain points individually in three communication events: public speaking, a personal interview and a written essay.

The Super Quiz Oral Relay, considered to be the most anticipated event during the competition, will be held on Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. in the Berkmar High School auditorium.

The winning team will represent Georgia in the national championship , the United States Academic Decathlon Nationals, in Omaha, Nebraska, this April.
