Saints are heavenly

I woke up Monday morning glad that I’m not a betting woman, because I would have gone with the odds-on favorite Indianapolis Colts to win the Super Bowl win Sunday.

The Colts looked like they were going to make short work of the New Orleans Saints, with a 10-6 lead at halftime.

The Saints offense came alive in the second half, as did their defense and were the ultimate victors in a 31-17 rout.

It was no surprise to anyone watching Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees would walk away with the Most Valuable Player trophy.

Congratulations to the Saints, and all of the “Who Dat” nation, on their first franchise Super Bowl win.

Rev 'em up

The Budweiser Shootout, an exhibition, non-points NASCAR race, was the warm-up precursor to Sunday’s Daytona 500. Earlier in the day, Mark Martin proved he’s not over the hill with winning the pole position during qualifying. Dale Earnhardt Jr. secured the second spot. Spots are guaranteed for the top 35 drivers from last season, but they set those positions in qualifying races Thursday.

Give your sweetheart their chocolates and teddy bears, then settle in for what should be an exciting race. NASCAR lifted the ban on bump-drafting at Talladega and Daytona, and the cars are equipped with larger restrictor plates, making them go that much faster.

The race begins at 1 p.m. Sunday on Fox. As much as I think Jimmie Johnson’s a great driver, it would be nice to see someone else shake things up and claim the championship this season.

You go, girl

One of my most favorite athletes — if you qualify race car drivers as athletes … it’s a personal decision — Danica Patrick, will make her NASCAR debut at the Nationwide Series race at 1 p.m. Saturday at Daytona. Patrick finished sixth in an ARCA race Saturday at Daytona, which she said helped her make the decision to start the limited NNS schedule this weekend.

The race will be broadcast on ESPN2.

Winter Olympic kickoff

I’ve found people either love the Olympics or just don’t seem to care. I absolutely love watching anything and everything Olympic, even curling, but then again, I also like watching paint dry.

The Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics from Vancouver, Canada, will be at 8 p.m. tonight on NBC.

If you’re one of the apathetic viewers, give it another try, you might be surprised at the must-see TV.
