Under the sea: Explore the Flint RiverQuarium

closeAlbany, Ga. -- Located along the banks of the Flint River, the Flint RiverQuarium tells the story of the Apalachicola, Chattahoochee and Flint River basins.
Trace the Flint River’s 350-mile journey from Atlanta to the Gulf of Mexico and see freshwater and saltwater tanks showcasing southwest Georgia’s underwater inhabitants.
The highlight of the aquarium is the Blue Hole Spring, a 175,000-gallon freshwater home to native fish, turtles and alligators. The spring can be viewed both on the upper level and from a glass wall two floors down that shows visitors the aquatic life swimming in its depths. Other attractions inside the aquarium include the World of Water, which discusses rivers around the world, a fish hatchery, an aviary and lots of kid-friendly activities at the Discovery Cavern.

10,000 rubber turtles will be launched into the fountain at Flint RiverQuarium.

Adjacent to the aquarium is the Adventure Center, which houses the Imagination Theater and the alligator exhibit Dragons in Paradise. Take time to visit the facility’s most prominent resident, Moonshine, or to catch an IMAX film while you’re there. Shows include Wild Ocean and Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia.
