I don’t know much about art, but I know what I hate
That’s right – I’m one of those guys who knows nothing about high society, yet traipses through it as if I were a member of it. I sniff in disdain at fine art and wine alike, not knowing anything about what I’m doing.
Luckily, I’ll have more than enough chances to do that this weekend. Follow along and find out what it’s like to be the insufferable little snot that I am.
Start out with the annual Art & Antique Show and Sale at the RiverMill Event Centre – a place so classy they misspell the word “center” as if we were still British subjects. You’ll find the posh event at 3715 First Ave., nestled in the heart of Bibb City. Here, for $10 American dollars, you’ll find objects d’art, just plain art and antiques. Bring a wad of cash so you can pay $450 for that decanter you’ll never use. It’s open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Still don’t feel enough like a yuppie? Then check out the Fife and Drum’s first wine tasting event from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the National Infantry Museum, which you reach via Fort Benning Road. Bring $28 for the wine, cheeses and appetizers.
After all this, you may be wheezy from all the haute couture you’ve been imbibing. Try to chillax by swinging by Eighty-Five, the hep, hep, hep new club just below Belloo’s, 901 Front Ave. I hear the Weeks are playing on Saturday and cover is $5.

Business in the front, party in the back
You know the seasons are changing when the entertainment calendar includes almost too many options for your own good. This is one of those weekends.
The fun starts with Friday's Rascal Flatts concert at the Columbus Civic Center. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show, which features special guest Darius Rucker, are $59.75. Haven't bought one yet? Hurry up, only upper-level seats remain.
If you can't make the show, settle for the after-party Friday night at The Roadhouse, 1047 Broadway. Local country act Montgomery Gun performs. It's included in the First Friday Block Party, when one $10 cover gets you into the majority of Broadway hot spots.
You'll want to return to Broadway Saturday night, when Flip Flops hosts Mullet Fest 2010. There will be prizes for the best redneck costumes. Action starts at 9:45 p.m. and cover is $5. Jasper Drive performs. Flip Flops is at 1111 Broadway.
Tired? Wrap up the weekend by chilling on the couch and watching the 82nd Annual Academy Awards. The show airs 8 p.m. Sunday on ABC. With luck, Meryl Streep will flaunt a mullet.
