LAGRANGE, Ga. — Downtown LaGrange is about to get a little brighter.
A partnership between the city and the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority will bring additional lighting to Lafayette Square. Officials said the lighting is much needed and will hopefully be the beginning of attempts to brighten the area at night.
"I challenge any of you to go down there after dark," said Judy Boggus, who sits on the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority board, during the LaGrange City Council committee meeting on Tuesday.
Boggus said lights were added to the square's fountain about a year ago, but the area is still too dark at night.
"It indeed looks beautiful, but doesn't spray lights out," she said.
Council members approved a proposal by the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority to place 16 ground well lights beneath the square's Crape Myrtle trees. The development authority will fund $5,000 of the $9,000 project and the city will foot the remainder of the bill.
Boggus said she hopes the additional lighting will be a start and eventually the area could have several lamp post lighting the area.
