A Columbus man was arrested Wednesday night after Muscogee County Sheriff’s deputies found nearly 20 firearms and $700 worth of methamphetamine in his house.

William Dilmus Jones was booked into the Muscogee County Jail on multiple drug and weapon possession charges after investigators found 19 loaded guns — three of them stolen — military ballistics equipment, about $200 worth of marijuana and about $700 worth of “ice” methamphetamine in a house on 5543 Dearborn Avenue.

Lt. Steve Sikes said two deputies arrived at the house at around 10 p.m. with a bench warrant for Jones’ arrest on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act and having no state tag.

They were told that Jones was not at home, but after searching the house, found Jones in a bedroom with several weapons. The deputies continued searching the house, eventually uncovering the rest of the guns and the drugs.

“They found the weapons in plain site. They expanded their search and wound up finding the methaphetamines,” Sikes said. “All the guns were loaded.”

“Ice” methamphetamine, a white crystal-like substance, is meth in it’s purest form, Maj. Mike Massey said, and an uncommon find.

“Meth is a major problem,” Massey said. “Ice is rare for us to find.”
