Kala-Anjali India Culture Center presents "Ghungroo" or "The Dancing Bell," an evening of dances from India on March 20

The annual Kala-Anjali India Culture Center will present "Ghungroo" or "The Dancing Bell," an evening of dances from India at 5-7 p.m. March 20 in Columbus State University's University Hall on main campus.

Instructor Mousumi Bhandary's 30 students, ranging in age from 5-35, will be featured throughout the evening.

"Ghungroo" will showcase Kathak (a northern India classical dance), folk dances of India and contemporary Indian dance. Indian dance combines rhythmic and gestural choreography, Bhandary said.

This year's featured artist is Bhandary's teacher, Madhumita Roy of Kolkata. Considered a prodigy, Roy first learn to dance with Ramgopal Mishra in Jaipur. Later, she took talim in Lucknow Gharana with Vijay Shankar. In Delhi, she took classes from Birju Maharaj.
