Trust us, this won’t hurt one bit.

When the musicians from The Good Doctor perform at downtown nightclub Belloo’s this weekend, your sole ailment might be an insatiable hunger for funk.

The act consists of four guys who met at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. After graduation, they moved to Opelika and found their fifth band member.

The result: a unique blend of funk, rock and soul.

With instruments like a saxophone and trumpet, this act demonstrates a musicality that reaches beyond simply re-creating danceable tunes.

The five musicians recorded a CD at The Loft Recording Studio in Columbus and expect to release it soon.

The band formed about a year ago and has built a following both locally and in places like Atlanta, Birmingham and Florida.

Expect a mix of covers and original tunes. Members of The Good Doctor cite influences ranging from The Beatles to Steely Dan.

Attending this weekend’s shows? Remember that Fridays and Saturdays are Little Black Dress Nights at Belloo’s. Women wearing black dresses will receive two gift certificates for the bar.
