Chattahoochee County High School hosted its annual voices dinner theater night March 6 with poet Felton Eaddy, along with a teacher from CHATTCO and three students, reading their own poetry. Eaddy is also an English teacher at Clark Atlanta University.
The Grassroots Arts Program gave CHATTCO the opportunity to develop the event through a grant the state of Georgia dedicated to the advancement of the arts. “The evening was inspiring,” said Theresa Rhodes, a junior.
The Ed and Alice duo played music to create the ambiance for the performance, beginning with the arrival of the more than 200 attendees. The high school hospitality club served dinner and drinks and CHATTCO band member Rachel Brown, sang The Anchor Holds. “Her voice was absolutely beautiful,” said Thomas Kennedy, a sophomore.
Eaddy read poems from his book, Bending Over to Pick Up a Snake and Rachael Abernathy, CHATTCO journalism teacher, performed her poem The Woman I Know. Three other students read poetry on subjects like abstinence and self discovery.
During intermission, Eaddy signed copies of his book, as guests looked at the artwork hung around the room. One of the most notable pieces was by Julian Person, a high school junior, who’s pencil sketching of Hermione from Harry Potter was absolutely lifelike.
