AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn 2010 signee Jeremey Richardson has enrolled at East Mississippi Community College but plans to re-sign with Auburn next year, according to AuburnSports.com.
Richardson, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound receiver from Springville, Ala., enrolled in junior college in January to get back to Auburn quicker. He is roommates with 2011 Tigers commitment Izauea Lanier.
A four-star recruit, Richardson was ranked by Rivals as the No. 7 overall high school player in Alabama last year.

Northside to play Carrollton at Turner Field
The Northside baseball team still has tickets available for its game against Carrollton on Friday at Turner Field in Atlanta.
Tickets are $5 and are available through Patriots players and coaches, the Northside office, Chik-fil-A on Bradley Park Drive and at Gold’s Gym on Veterans Parkway. The tickets are good for admittance into Friday’s Northside game as well as the Braves-Dodgers game on August 15 at Turner Field.
Friday’s game begins at 6 p.m.

Pitch, Hit & Run at American LL
American Little League on Double Churches Road is sponsoring a Pitch, Hit, & Run competition for softball and baseball Sunday at 3 p.m.
Competitors are divided into four age divisions (7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14) and have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including team championships at Major League Baseball stadiums and the national finals at the MLB All-Star Game.
Registration will be at the American Little League concession stand 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and fill out a registration form before the competition.

Taylor now with the ‘enemy’
WESTON, Fla. — Jason Taylor says he’s joining the New York Jets because he feared their contract offer would be the only one he would receive.
The longtime Miami Dolphins linebacker said Tuesday he agreed to terms with the AFC East-rival Jets on a two-year contract.
Taylor, the NFL’s active sacks leader, joins a team he long considered an enemy. He wanted to stay in Miami but said he had to give the Jets an answer on their offer before the draft begins Thursday.
Steelers reacquire Leftwich
PITTSBURGH — The Steelers reacquired quarterback Byron Leftwich by dealing a seventh-round draft pick to Tampa Bay, a sign they expect Ben Roethlisberger to be suspended for the start of the season.
Leftwich backed up Roethlisberger in 2008, when the Steelers won the Super Bowl. He knows offensive coordinator Bruce Arians’ system and could be ready to play Sept. 12 when the Steelers open against Atlanta.
The Steelers play three teams that didn’t make the playoffs — the Falcons, Bucs and Titans — plus division rival Baltimore in their first four games, a period that could span any Roethlisberger suspension.
Favre busy with yard work
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The latest word from Brett Favre was about lawn care.
So much for deciding about next season.
The Minnesota Vikings are still waiting for an announcement from the quarterback about whether he will be back, though coach Brad Childress has been in regular communication with him.
Childress said he spoke with Favre on Monday, when the 40-year-old grandfather told him he was “spraying weeds” at his home in Mississippi.
Then on Tuesday, Childress said he sent a text message to Favre after learning the Vikings are scheduled to open the season Sept. 9 in New Orleans in an NFC championship game rematch with the Saints.
BASEBALL
Volquez suspended
CINCINNATI — Former All-Star pitcher Edinson Volquez was suspended 50 games Tuesday following a positive test for a banned fertility substance, a punishment that will cost him money but won’t hurt the Cincinnati Reds’ rotation.
The 26-year-old right-hander is recovering from reconstructive elbow surgery and isn’t expected to rejoin the Reds until late July at the earliest. He can serve the suspension from Major League Baseball while continuing his rehabilitation.
Volquez said in a statement he received a prescription in the Dominican Republic as part of his treatment to start a family with his wife. He said the drug was banned by MLB — four types of fertility substances are illegal under baseball rules.
McGregor found dead
DENVER — Colorado Rockies president Keli McGregor was found dead in his hotel room in Salt Lake City on Tuesday.
Detective Rick Wall said two of McGregor’s associates couldn’t get in touch with him and that someone entered his room at The Grand America Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City and found the 48-year-old McGregor unconscious Tuesday morning.
There were no signs of foul play.
TENNIS
Serena out; Venus a maybe
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Serena Williams is not going to play for the U.S. against Russia in the Fed Cup semifinals this weekend. Venus Williams still needs to decide whether she’ll be on the team.
Both sisters have been dealing with leg problems.
The roster can be changed up to one hour before Friday’s draw, but Venus was expected to tell Fernandez her status Tuesday. The matches are Saturday and Sunday.
The rest of the team includes Melanie Oudin, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Liezel Huber.
