Columbus weather: Heat index will make it feel like 101

Heat index values today will make it feel like it's 101 degrees outside, though the actual temperature will linger around 96, according to the National Weather Service.

There's about a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., which could offer some relief, but for the most part expect partly cloudy skies and lots of heat and humidity today.

According to Accuweather.com, it won't be a record-breaking day, but pretty close. The high on June 21, 2006 was 100 degrees, while this date last year brought a high of 98.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 73, while Tuesday, temperatures will soar again into the high 90s with heat index values making it feel like the low 100s outside.

Tuesday night there's a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8 p.m. Expect partly cloudy skies, with a low around 73.

Wednesday there's a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Skies will be partly cloudy, with a high near 95, while Wednesday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 72.
