So You Think You Can Dance June 24 results: Cristina Santana kicked off SYTYCD

ssorich@ledger-enquirer.comJune 24, 2010

Salsa dancer Cristina Santana made her second trip to the bottom three and was eliminated from "So You Think You Can Dance" Thursday night.

Melinda Sullivan and Robert Roldan joined her in the bottom three. Sullivan was in the bottom three last week.

Judge Nigel Lythgoe said Thursday's decision wasn't unanimous. He wanted to eliminate Melinda, but judges Mia Michaels and Adam Shankman thought Cristina should go.

Nine dancers remain in the competition.

Here's a full recap of Thursday's episode:

***

The show opens with a Sonya Tayeh group routine to "Crookers" by Royal T featuring Roisin Murphy.

Nigel updates us on National Dance Day. Cat hasn't learned the routine yet. Tsk tsk. You can submit your plans for National Dance Day online and possibly be featured on TV.

Time for some results. Kent Boyd and Adechike Torbert are safe.

Cristina Santana is in the bottom three.

Shankman makes a PSA: If you thought he judges were too harsh Wednesday night, calm down. Everybody needs criticism.

Alex Wong and Jose Ruiz are safe.

Ashley Galvan is safe.

Melinda Sullivan is in the bottom three. Nigel says she needs to find a way to connect with people.

Lauren Froderman is safe.

Who will complete the bottom three: Billy Bell or Robert Roldan?

Billy Bell is safe. Robert Roldan is in the bottom three.

So this week's bottom three is Robert Roldan, Cristina Sanchez and Melinda Sullivan.

Time for a guest performance. Bryan Gaynor is back on the SYTYCD stage! Remember, he's the inspirational dancer who has scoliosis. He auditioned this season with a robot-type routine and didn't make it. But Nigel said Bryan and his crew, RemoteKontrol, could perform this season.

The solos start with Cristina Santana, who does her usual Latin routine to "Quimbara." It's good, but she doesn't really bring anything new to the table.

Same goes for Melinda Sullivan, who taps to "Heels" by Q-Tip. I'm ready for her to leave. She really hasn't proven her versatility.

Robert Roldan is my favorite soloist of the night. His contemporary routine to "Everywhere I Go" by Lissie has the most emotion of the three.

While the judges deliberate, we get a performance by Costa Rican artist Debi Nova, who sings "Drummer Boy." She's accompanied by the SYTYCD all-stars.

Judgment time. Nigel says the decision was not unanimous.

Robert Roldan is safe.

Nigel doesn't know why the public won't connect with Melinda. He wanted to let her go, but Shankman and Mia wanted her to stay.

Cristina Santana is eliminated, but Nigel says she was amazing this week.
