AUBURN, Ala. — Cornerback D’Antoine Hood, a former Central-Phenix standout, has transferred from Auburn to Alabama State.

Hood, the cousin of former Auburn and current Titans cornerback Roderick Hood, appeared in 22 games and started twice in two years with the Tigers, playing on special teams and as a defensive back. He finished with 22 career tackles.

He wrote in a Facebook message to the Ledger-Enquirer that he has been taking summer classes in Montgomery for the past month. Because Alabama State is in the Football Championship Subdivision, Hood will be able to play immediately.

The 5-foot-10, 192-pound cornerback received limited playing time last year after suffering a high-ankle sprain in August. He appeared in the final 10 games and started in the Outback Bowl against Northwestern’s spread offense. He made five tackles but was beaten for a touchdown pass.

Hood’s departure hurts the Tigers’ depth in the secondary, where senior Demond Washington and junior Neiko Thorpe are expected to start.

T’Sharvan Bell and converted wide receiver Anthony Gulley-Morgan, both sophomores, are the only other scholarship cornerbacks on the roster, although several freshmen will report in August.

Hood was the only Columbus-area scholarship player on Auburn’s roster.
