Columbus State University police arrested a man they say had a gun on campus a day after a shot was fired in the parking lot of Courtyard I.

Benjamin C. King, 21, of Columbus, faces charges after he allegedly ran from a CSU officer Monday evening, said John Lester, spokesman with the university.

Lester said visiting privileges at the college had been revoked after a Sunday shooting in a different parking lot near Courtyard I. A resident assistant spotted a group of people in the parking lot, and he approached to talk to them.

The RA then grew suspicious, and he called campus police. An officer arrived and asked for their IDs, and then started checking their information through dispatch, Lester said.

“One of them turned out to be wanted on a warrant out of Harris County,” Lester said. “He apparently knew it was coming and took off. He was arrested within the complex after a short foot pursuit.”

Lester said the suspect had a gun on him.

King faces charges including obstruction of an officer, failure to leave, carrying a concealed weapon and a weapons charge, Muscogee County Jail records state.
