Secretary of Defense Robert Gates announced Aug. 27 that President Barack Obama nominated COL Ted Martin for appointment to the rank of brigadier general. Martin is currently serving as commandant, U. S. Army Armor Center, at Fort Benning’s Maneuver Center of Excellence. Martin became the 45th chief of Armor during an assumption of command ceremony July 7 at Fort Knox, Ky.

The colonel has served in the U.S. Army for 27 years, including three deployments leading troops in Iraq and preparing Soldiers for deployment at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif.

During Martin’s change of command ceremony, he said “the armored fist from Fort Knox, Kentucky, will arrive and join with the bayonet at Fort Benning, Georgia, to complete yet another phase of transformation of our great Army.”
