Columbus crime: Man shot and killed after dispute at Johnston Mill Lofts, police say

Columbus police are investigating the Friday morning shooting death of a local man.

Brian Alexander Brown, 33, was pronounced dead at 11:39 a.m. at The Medical Center, Muscogee County deputy coroner Freeman Worley said.

Brown died after being shot in the head during at altercation at Johnston Mill Lofts, an apartment building on First Avenue, Columbus police Sgt. Harvey Hatcher said.

Hatcher said detectives arrived at the building around 10:30 a.m. and found Brown in one of the apartments, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He said Brown got into dispute with another man before the shooting.

Brown lived in the apartment, Hatcher said.

Police do not have a description of the suspect in the shooting at this time.

Brown’s body will be sent to the crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy.
