OnStar, the auto industry's first telematics system, celebrates its 15th anniversary this month.

OnStar was founded in 1995 and officially launched at the Chicago Auto Show in 1996. Here are some statistics General Motors(GM) released about the company, which paved the way for the use of GPS technology in cars.

......There have been more than 1 million responses to emergency service alerts through OnStar.
......There have been more than 146,000 responses to automatic crash notifications where, through OnStar, first responders have been sent to a scene where an airbag has deployment and the driver been unresponsive.
......Since 2007, OnStar has responded to more than 51,000 requests for stolen vehicle assistance.
......More than 59 million turn-by-turn driving routes have been delivered to drivers.
......More than 4.7 million doors have been unlocked through OnStar's remote door unlock service.

Now, for some trivia. OnStar's first ad appeared in 1996 in a clever placement in a Seinfeld episode. In the episode, one of the lead characters was in the hospital and picked up a copy of The New York Times, which featured the OnStar ad. Who was the character? Drop a line and let me know. Until then. have a good one.
