Who's a worse parent, Amber or Gary?
I asked that question while watching Tuesday's episode of MTV's "Teen Mom." The show focused on a fight that left Amber telling Gary, "If I didn't have Leah, we would not be together."
It prompted Gary to leave Amber once again, while daughter Leah stared out the window and cried.
Also on Tuesday's show, Farrah worked on her relationship with her family. Catelynn celebrated her daughter's birthday.
Maci found an apartment in Nashville and finally told her parents about her move.
Here's a full recap of the episode:
AMBER PORTWOOD
Amber and Gary attend dance lessons to prepare for their upcoming wedding. Perhaps "upcoming" isn't the best word. Amber tells the instructor she wants to get married in two to four months, Gary says maybe 20 months.
The good news? Gary gets a job stocking shelves. The bad news? He wakes their daughter Leah up while leaving for work early in the morning, making her cranky while Amber takes care of her for the rest of the day.
Amber calls Gary to complain. He answers the phone with a cordial greeting: "What?"
Nonetheless, Amber still tries on wedding dresses while accompanied by a friend. The process causes her to think she's simply settling for Gary. "What he is now is what I don't want," she says.
(Speaking of settling, perhaps Amber should read my recent blog post on the topic.)
Later, Amber and Gary fight about disciplining Leah. Mid-argument, Amber says, "If I didn't have Leah, we would not be together...I just want a real guy to marry."
It causes Gary to pack up and leave, taking his most prized possession. No, not his daughter...his TV. As he leaves, Amber tells Leah, "Daddy left you again." Hmm. Not an entirely accurate explanation.
Gary goes to his parents' house. When his mom asks what happened, Gary says, "We was fighting and she kicks me out." Those are his grammatical errors, not mine.
Amber chats with her friend, who tries to share some input but is always interrupted by Amber. Finally, she offers the voice of reason: "You are not the only one who had the child. He did, too."
CATELYNN LOWELL
As their daughter's birthday approaches, Catelynn and Tyler meet with their adoption counselor. Catelynn notes how giving her daughter up for adoption destroyed her relationship with her mother.
That aside, Tyler and Catelynn remain confident in their decision to give their daughter up for adoption a year ago. They speak with daughter Carly and her adoptive parents on her birthday. They learn she's skinny, but a good eater. She also apparently waves to them over the phone. Aww.
FARRAH ABRAHAM
Amid her financial problems, Farrah considers moving into her parents' other home. Unfortunately, it's across the street from her parents' main residence.
As Farrah weighs the pros and cons, her family celebrates Farrah's birthday by taking Farrah and daughter Sophia to the zoo.
Impressed? Think again. Farrah's dad's car burns up on the way to the zoo. When they finally switch cars and make it to the zoo, Farrah complains about her family being annoying the whole time.
In her family's defense, they make her a pretty awesome barbecue meal for her birthday.
Farrah looks at the rental home with her mom and gives her mom a contract she claims Sophia helped draft. Yeah, right. Farrah's mom asks Farrah what she wants from their relationship.
"I don't need to tell you what I want," Farrah says, adding that they should attend another counseling session together before she moves in. Farrah has less than a month to decide if she wants to make the move.
MACI BOOKOUT
Maci gets the ball rolling for her move to be closer to new boyfriend Kyle. Why is she moving so quickly? She wants to prevent Ryan, the father of her son Bentley, from taking legal action that would prevent her from relocating.
Without telling her parents, Maci looks at a school in the Nashville area. She wants to study journalism. She also finds a pretty nice apartment that's $825 a month. That's more than my rent. How does Maci afford this stuff?
Anyway, she pays the $99 deposit on the day of her visit and the move is all systems go. Remember, she still hasn't told her parents.
She and Kyle drop the bomb during dinner. Maci's dad asks, "That makes a lot of sense, don't it?" Just when things can't get more awkward, Ryan arrives to pick up Bentley. She greets him without mentioning the move.
Either way, Maci is now all set for Nashville. I sense conflict brewing.
