Two weekends, two road trips. Head for the north Georgia, south Tennesee and west North Carolina mountains or go to Panama City Beach to eat shrimp.
Or do both.
This weekend, the VMTA takes off for its annual North Georgia ride. Meet at the Shell station just outside the Welcome Center on Williams Road. The caravan will depart at 8 a.m. The trip is an overnight ride. The return ride may make a stop in Ellijay, Ga., for its Apple Festival. Good roads and good weather report for a fall ride in the mountains.
Next weekend, Oct. 22-24, the VMTA heads for Panama City Beach for its annual Shrimp Peel event. It's open to all riders. There will be a group leaving Friday morning and another group on Saturday morning.
Rides leave from the Waffle King in Phenix City on U.S. 431 South, just off the U.S. 280 exit. Kick stands go up at 8 a.m. both Friday and Saturday.
All that's required is that you are in the Tiki Bar at the Sandpiper Beacon Resort at 2 p.m. Georgia time on Saturday to pay for the shrimp you plan to eat. Cost will be set by market price. Typically, folks buy a pound per person. Club members and guests also bring side dishes, so there's plenty to choose from.
Rooms at the Sandpiper Beacon Resort are $59, $69, $79 depending on ocean view. When making reservations tell them you are with VMTA. Call 1-800-488-8828.
