CYSS teams take to the court

Child, Youth & School Services youth basketball 9- to 10- and 11- to 13-year-old divisions each played their third games of the season Saturday at the CYSS gym, which featured standout performances both individually and collectively.

9-10 Year Olds

In the 9- to 10-year-old youth basketball games, Team 4 defeated Team 1 28-9. Colin Castleton led a very balanced scoring offense for Team 4 with seven points. Six players scored for Team 4. The defense for Team 4 held Team 1 to six points in the first half and just three points in the second half.

In the second game of the 9- to 10-year-old division, Team 2 defeated Team 3 34-5. Clayton Donahue had 10 points while Joshua Youngblood had eight points as the Team 2 offense overwhelmed Team 3. Team 2 held Team 3 to one point in the first half. Cameron Slevin and Hudson Zeisman scored the only second-half points for Team 3.

11-13 Year Olds

JongHyun Jung and Dalton Pritt combined for 22 points as Team 4 defeated Team 1 27-13 in the 11- to 13-year-old division. Team 4 got off to a quick start as JongHyun and Dalton scored eight points each in the first quarter. Rajea Money also had eight points for Team 1 in the first quarter but Team 1 stumbled the rest of the game, scoring just five points as a team in the final three quarters.

In the final game of the day, Marquel Fordham scored 14 points and Christopher Chambers scored 11 points, leading Team 3 to a 33-18 win over Team 2.

Team 3 jumped out in the lead early with a 10-0 run, holding Team 2 to a scoreless first quarter and just three points in the first half. Team 2 tried to make a comeback by scoring 15 points in the second half, but had too much ground to make up for after falling behind early.
