You finally have permission to use a pickup line straight out of Mr. Suave’s handbook: “Excuse me, would you like to split a pack of Claritin?”

Ah, the joys of spring dating.

Once you embrace the pollen, it’s an almost perfect season for romance. You can showcase physical assets previously hidden by sweatpants.

And for the most part, the weather’s not yet warm enough to let unsightly back sweat interfere with your attractiveness.

But wait.

Amid spring’s potential for romantic bliss, it’s easy to overlook basic common sense. One minute you’re savoring a sunny afternoon in the park, the next minute you’re alone at home nursing your icy heart.

Want to avoid potential pitfalls? Remember these tips while navigating the spring dating scene:

Outdoor dates require planning. You look outside and breathe a (congested) sigh of relief. The warmer temperatures erase some of the challenges that come with planning elaborate indoor dates, right?

Not exactly.

While walks and picnics are often less expensive than restaurant excursions, they still warrant a certain level of advance preparation. After all, you don’t want to end up stranded on a remote hiking trail.

And whenever outdoor dining is involved, you should always remember basic concerns regarding mayonnaise and dairy products. Beware the romantic wrath of a spoiled batch of deviled eggs.

Another bit of wisdom regarding outdoor dates: I’d caution against introducing a physical fitness challenge unless you’re fully aware of your date’s athletic capabilities, or lack thereof.

Company counts. Winter is a season traditionally associated with family gatherings, but spring often carries a similar focus on togetherness. Bombarding a new partner with your friends and family members usually comes with some level of intimidation -- even when the introductions happen in a casual setting.

And speaking of company, don’t assume it’s OK to bring your pet along on your initial series of outdoor dates. Not everyone finds the phrase “pooper scooper” romantically appealing.

Remember wardrobe. The weather on an ideal spring day is not too hot or cold -- it’s just right. Sculpt your wardrobe accordingly. That means it’s probably best to refrain from debuting your bikini top prematurely.

Resisting an urge to jump into summer apparel can be tough, but it’s for the best. Trust me, your foot fungus hasn’t healed completely.

With these tips under your belt, you’re ready to conquer the spring dating scene -- pollen and all.

Hope you look good in yellow.
