AUBURN Ala. — Auburn’s pitching staff combined to hold No. 21 Troy to just three hits while the Auburn generated six runs on seven hits and four walks to claim a 6-1 win on Tuesday night at Plainsman Park. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Auburn (15-10). Jon Luke Jacobs retired all nine hitters he faced in just his third appearance of the season and his first start since March 2 against Bethune Cookman. Will Irvin (4-1) took the win for Auburn, tossing two shutout innings. Justin Fradejas led Auburn, going 2-for-4.
CVCC 11-3, ENTERPRISE STATE 1-5 Mike O’Neal pitched a complete-game three hitter as Chattahoochee Valley crushed Enterprise State 11-1 in the opening game of a doubleheader at Howard Lake Field. But Enterprise rallied for a 5-3 victory in the nightcap. O’Neal (6-1) had nine strikeouts. Ty Abbott led the Pirates (22-15, 9-5 ACCC) at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs. His homer in the bottom of the eighth gave CVCC the 10-run lead, which ended the game due to the mercy rule.
MERCER 4, GEORGIA TECH 2 ATLANTA — Evans Boyd’s two-out double in the eighth inning scored two of Mercer’s four unanswered runs to lead the Bears to an upset win over No. 6 Georgia Tech. The loss ended a nation-leading 16-game win streak for Georgia Tech (21-5) and a 17-game win streak for the Jackets over Mercer — dating back to 1998. The Georgia Tech pitching staff had control issues for the better part of the night, walking the leadoff batter in five of the nine innings. Two of Mercer’s four runs were scored by runners that drew a leadoff walk. Tech was led at the plate by junior Matt Skole, who had three of the Jackets’ 10 hits. Mercer’s Russell Moses (2-1) earned the win on the mound after holding the Jackets scoreless over 5 1-3 innings of relief. Tech will resume conference action with a three-game series against Duke this weekend. First pitch Friday is at 6 p.m.
UAB 5, ALABAMA 1 HOOVER, Ala. — No. 21 Alabama baseball had its seven-game winning streak snapped at Regions Park. The Crimson Tide fell to 18-8. UAB, which lost to Alabama 6-3 in Tuscaloosa last week, improved to 14-10. UAB reliever Mark McKinley (2-0) got the win after entering the game in the seventh inning for starting pitcher David Hayes. Hayes threw a career-high 6.1 innings, while allowing one run on six hits. UA starter Trey Pilkington (1-1) took the loss after throwing 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
CLEMSON 11, GEORGIA 5 CLEMSON, S.C. — Powered by a seven-run outburst in the sixth inning, 16th-ranked Clemson defeated Georgia at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
