Car shows aren’t just for gearheads: “More than anything it’s (about) the fellowship,” said Tara Howard, youth pastor at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Smiths Station.

On Saturday, the church, located at 2616 Lee Road 243, will hold its fourth annual Car Show to raise funds for a youth mission trip in July.

It’s free to attend the event, but a concession stand run by the youth, car show entry fees and a 50/50 raffle will help raise the needed funds.

This year’s trip will be to Gatlinburg, Tenn., said Howard, where the youth group will “repair and construct different needs for the people in rural Appalachia.”

The trip is organized by the Alabama Rural Missions Project.

Vehicles can be submitted to the show until noon Saturday. It costs $20 to enter one car and $10 for an additional car for the same owner.

Howard said last year there were 73 cars on display, ranging from restored classics to newer custom cars.

There will also be door prizes, including gift cards to Terry’s Grocery in Smiths Station, and an auction with automobile-related merchandise.
