Signs of spring in Columbus: pollen dust and the scent of funnel cakes in the air.
The pollen will stick around for at least another month, but this weekend is your last chance at fried dough and a ride on the Ferris Wheel at the Columbus Civic Centers Spring Fling.
The annual event brings a carnival midway to the centers parking lot, complete with rides for adults and children. Wristbands for unlimited rides are $20 today and $25 Friday, some of Saturday and Sunday. Go Saturday between 11 a.m. and noon, and all the rides are free.
In addition to the rides and food vendors the fling also includes two free shows.
Something different on the midway this year is the Statue Viva, a living statue, played by Michelle Harrell. Harrell has toured across the country performing as a statue that comes to life at festivals, fairs and resorts. She changes her performance each night based on audience participation and improvisation.
If youre looking for something a little more high action, check out the King BMX Stunt Show, performing Thursday through Sunday.
The show features professional BMX bike riders executing flips, tail-whips and other stunts on the ground and on ramps. Show organizers say to expect tricks like those seen in the X Games and the Dew Action Sports Tour.
The riders will perform Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 9 p.m., on Saturday at 2 p.m., 4 p.m. 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Admission to the Spring Fling is $5 for the general public, $1 for students with an ID and free for children, 2 and younger.
