Pound to conduct Atlanta Symphony Friday night at Callaway

    Tickets: $20, $10 for children 6-12, free for children 5 and younger; half-price for military with valid ID and Callaway Gardens annual passholders

Columbus native Robert Pound will be the guest conductor as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra performs the annual “Symphony on the Sand” concert Friday night.

Pound will conduct the orchestra as it plays popular and classical favorites like the theme from “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” selections from the musical, “Mame,” and classical works by Shostakovich and Gould.

Pound received his Ph.D. from the Juilliard School in New York City, and is associate professor of music at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., where he teaches music theory, composition and conducting. He is also the director of the Dickinson Orchestra.

The concert is 8-9:30 p.m. Guests are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs and picnic baskets.

The Beach Pavilion will be open and will serve a variety of food and beverages. Alcoholic beverages will be available to those older than 21.

Proceeds benefit the Ida Cason Callaway Foundation.
