Cinco De Mayo is my favorite holiday.
Okay, so my reason for loving 5/5 is probably slightly different from yours. In addition to commemorating the Battle of Puebla, Cinco De Mayo is also my birthday (I'll be 26 this year). I think that's why I like Mexican food and good margaritas.
If you also want to celebrate Cinco De Mayo (or my birthday), check out The Cantina's Five Days of Cinco De Mayo this week. The restaurant and bar on Broadway will have a variety of food and drink specials throughout this week.
If you visit the restaurant (which boasts a real polar bear and freshly prepared guacamole), here's what to expect each day.
Today: Massages and Margaritas. $12 gets you a massage, a 16-ounce margarita and a taco salad with your choice of grilled chicken, steak or shrimp. You can also just get a massage and a margarita for $5. Massages will be from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
Tuesday, 5/3: Tijuana Tuesday. Get three tacos (your choice of chicken, steak or chorizo) with any 16 oz draft for $10.
Wednesday, 5/4: Bazooka Burrito Eating Contest. Get a three-pound meat burrito and a 16oz domestic draft beer for $20. Eat it in 15 minutes and you could win a prize, as well as bragging rights. The competition starts at 8:30 p.m. Call 706-478-7072 to reserve your spot.
Thursday, 5/5: Cinco De Mayo Hot Pepper Eating Contest at 8 p.m. Drink specials include $2 Bud Lite Limes and Coronas.
Friday, 5/6: Tapas and Tequila Tasting at 8 p.m. For $25, you get your choice of three tapas and three shots of premium tequila. Space is limited to 40 people, so RSVP to 706-341-1884 or e-mail thecantinatequila@gmail.com. A portion of the proceeds from the tasting will be donated to the Red Cross.
