If you thought the royal wedding was the only place to wear a fancy hat, youll be happy to learn theres another chance to show off your most elaborate cap.
The St. Francis Fellows Societys seventh annual Derby Day on Saturday will include a hat contest, as well as games, a silent auction, dinner and a showing of the Kentucky Derby live on a big screen television.
Reservations are $75 per guest, and proceeds benefit the Trinity Center for Women. Tickets must be purchased today.
Jessica Hart, development coordinator for the St. Francis Foundation, said money raised is used to help women that would not have ob/gyn care available to them.
Any woman can enter the hat contest. Winners are chosen by silent committee.
Its usually the hat that everyone likes the most, Hart said.
Merett Alexander won the hat contest two years ago, wearing a black hat with feathers and rhinestones she found at a local dress shop.
I was very shocked that I won, she said. It was a lot of fun to get some friends together. Its kind of cool. Everybody gets to wear a hat.
The party begins at 4:30 p.m. at Woodruff Park.
