Soldiers with the 63rd Engineer Company provided the expertise, equipment and labor to help renovate riding arenas at the Fort Benning Hunt Club for the Wounded Warrior Horsemanship Program.

The focus of the project was to revamp two of the existing arenas — tearing down existing fences, clearing out undergrowth and organics, removing excess soil, preparing the arena grounds and constructing new fencing for each of the arenas.

The project provided a “great opportunity to practice our job skills,” said Spc. Zachary Followwill.

Using equipment from bucket loaders to table saws, the Engineers kicked off the project April 12 and wrapped up May 27. The total cost was $3,520 including the cement, paint and 4,500 feet of lumber for the fences.

Sgt. Joshua Permenter said he appreciated the trust the post showed in the 63rd “to perform our job to standard.”
