Proud to be an American? Heres your guide to Independence Day events in the Chattahoochee Valley:
Monday, July 4
Thunder on the Hooch: This annual Independence Day celebration, organized by WTVM, will include festivities on both sides of the Chattahoochee. On the Georgia side of the river, there will be three-legged races, an obstacle course, face painting, tailgating games and pony rides for the kids. Head over to the Alabama side of the river for free entertainment, and a water balloon and egg toss. There will also be hot dog and watermelon eating competitions, a Civil War re-enactment, and of course, fireworks at dusk. Admission is free and events begin at 5 p.m. with a cannon blast.
Auburns Fourth of July celebration: This years Fourth of July celebration behind the home side of Duck Samford Stadium will feature performances from the Weston Burt Band, fun activities, balloon art for the kids and fireworks. Bring a picnic or buy food on site from Countrys Barbecue. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the fireworks begin at 9 p.m. Parking will be available on East University Drive near the old Duck Samford Fields. In the event of rain, the fireworks display will be on Tuesday, July 5 at 9 p.m.
Independence Day celebration in Warm Springs: Festivities at this celebration include a balloon artist and a watermelon seed spitting contest. Activities begin at 11 a.m. in downtown Warm Springs, with a musical concert from 4 p.m to 8 p.m.
Star-Spangled Beach Party at Callaway Gardens: See the Florida State University Flying Circus perform, then watch the fireworks at Robin Lake Beach. Gates open at 6:30 a.m. The circus performs at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. and fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. Admission is $25 for adults, $20 for senior citizens and $12.50 for children.
