Youve gotta know love to write a love song, says R & B recording artist Ginuwine.
You need experience -- nothing but experience, he said. If youve never been in love, how can you speak on it?
Ginuwine is one of three artists coming to the Columbus Civic Center this Saturday as part of the Summer of Love concert tour. R& B performers Tank and Avant will also perform.
They can expect an energy-filled concert. I hope everyone comes out and supports us. Its going to be a great show, said Ginuwine, who has worked with Avant and Tank before.
Its pretty easy working with them. Were all good friends, so theyre easier to get along with. Thats always a plus, he said.
For those new to his music, Ginuwine is the stage name for Elgin Baylor Lumpkin. He got his start in the mid 90s with his first single, Pony, and has worked with artists like Missy Elliott, Timbaland and Aaliyah.
Ginuwine said hes learned from his time in the music business. Now, a successful artist has to be both an artist and a business man, he said.
When youre in the music business, you learn to go with the times. You get a little older and a little wiser, he said. You look at things differently.
But hes glad for his time in the industry. Im continuing to do what I love to do, he said.
Tickets for the Summer of Love concert range from $37.50 to $47.50, and the concert begins at 8 p.m.
