Perseverance, courage and determination.
Keep those traits in mind if you want to become a professional dancer, according to So You Think You Can Dance winner Lauren Froderman.
She visited Columbus on Tuesday to teach master classes at Performance Dance Centre.
Know that dance comes hand-in-hand with failure, Froderman said in a Ledger-Enquirer interview after one of her classes. Youre going to get rejected over and over and over again and then theres going to be that one yes.
Froderman, 19, won the seventh season of the Fox reality TV dance competition. She came on the show as a contemporary jazz dancer from Arizona.
While teaching, Froderman emphasized the importance of self-confidence and individuality.
Dont do what you think I want to see, she told the young women in a class. Im one of the people that likes to see people dancing, not carbon copies of myself dancing.
Froderman said that since she won So You Think You Can Dance, shes stayed busy teaching and performing. Shell attend Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles in the fall.
Froderman encouraged fans to watch So You Think You Can Dance, noting, cool people are becoming all-stars -- my friends, um, maybe myself. Then, she winked at our interview camera.
All-stars are previous So You Think You Can Dance contestants who dance with current contestants on the show.
Carrie Paris, artistic director of Performance Dance Centre, said Froderman is the second guest instructor the studio has had this summer.
I think its nice to have someone come into the studio that can inspire the girls, Paris said. Its pumped them up, its made them better dancers.
Sam Moseley, one of the young women in Frodermans Tuesday classes, said the dancer is as relatable in real life as she appeared on the show.
Shes easy to get along with, said Moseley, 14, of Columbus.
