Got a pint-sized bow hunter in the family looking for target practice? Archery Connection, a new indoor archery range in Phenix City, offers shooting competitions for kids every Friday night.
Janice Smith, manager, said they typically have 25 to 35 kids sign up for the weekly competitions, which are open to kids ages 5 to 16. Archers are split into three competing classes, based on their ages: 5 to 8, 9 to 12 and 13 to 16.
Each competitor shoots 30 arrows during the competition in blocks of three. After shooting 15 arrows, theres a short intermission and then competitors shoot the remaining 15 arrows.
Winners in each class get a medal and a T-shirt, Smith said.
She said family and friends often come to the competitions to cheer the kids on.
Its a very family friendly atmosphere, she said. Its good recreation for the kids. A lot of them hunt with their dads.
There is an $8 entrance fee to compete and competitors must bring their own bows. Sign-up begins at 6:30 p.m. and the competition begins at 7 p.m.
