Moving to a new town can be a bit overwhelming. And just because military families are used to relocating every few years doesnt necessarily make the change any easier.
With the influx of military families transferring to Fort Benning from Fort Knox, Ky., in addition to the non-military newcomers who regularly move to the Valley to work for the several Fortune 500 companies in the area, this weekend seemed like a perfect time to bring out the welcome wagon.
Which is exactly why Heather Williams, the Ledger-Enquirers vice president of audience development, wanted to host the PCS Tour of the Valley Information Fair, a one stop shop for everything a newcomer needs to know about the Chattahoochee Valley.
The fair will be held at the RiverMill Event Centre, 3715 First Ave., from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.
With over 75 vendors, the information fair will cover everything from school districts, libraries and banks to entertainment venues, restaurants and local businesses.
Williams said that in addition to the fair being a great mix of everything you need to settle into the Chattahoochee Valley, its also a great way to connect with other newcomers.
The event is family-friendly, boasting games for kids, free samples and thousands of dollars in door prizes.
Plus, its free to attend, with the first 500 visitors on both days receiving a special gift bag.
Really what its about is getting to know your new community, said Williams. Plus, its a great way to beat the summer heat.
