ATHENS - This is the text of Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo's meeting with the media after Tuesday's practice. (Note: Some of the questions were asked by me, some by others. I figured I wouldn't complicate things by saying who asked which.)

Q: The offensive line issues against Boise State?

Bobo: "When you put yourself in too many of those situations, too many third and longs, any offensive line is gonna have some issues. There were some opportunities to make some plays on third down and we didn't. and then there were some protection breakdowns. It's just that percentages go down when you have third and long. And give that defense credit, they have a very good defensive line, very veteran and sound, and they executed at the right times better than we did."

Q: Obviously then, in getting to those third-and-longs, was that the run blocking?

Bobo: A little bit. Our plan going in was to take some shots early. We knew the second down was going to be important, and we didn't do as well on second (down) as we'd like to, and had too many third-and-longs. Sometimes we had second-and-six and ended up losing two. It got us third-and-8. And it's not necessarily the run-blocking on every particular play. Just a good play by them, sometimes it's not a good play call, sometimes we didn't execute. But we've just gotta keep playing. I think their team was a very good example of keep-playing. They were getting turned around sideways too and they just kept playing and found a way to make plays and keep momentum going, which we just couldn't do until it was almost too late."

Q: What led you guys to make the changes you did in terms of no-huddle?

Bobo: Well we wanted to get more plays, which we didn't do on Saturday. But we're committed to doing it, and more plays equals more opportunities, and more chance to score. We went and looked to last year, and when we had more opportunities to score in the red zone we were very efficient. But we just didn't have as many opportunities as some other teams, and we scored points. But we thought more plays would equal more opportunities and more chance to get points on the board. That's the main thing, to get more chance and more opportunities."

Q: Do you have coaching friends that you bounced ideas off of?

Bobo: Yeah. It's not like it's new anymore. About every team in the country no-huddles. It's something you talk to with guys and how they do it, and how they communicate and how they run their offense."

Q: Is that the big reason you went up (to call plays) in the box?

Bobo: "Yes, yes."

Q: Were the plays, were the snaps as quick as you'd want them?

Bobo: "We did a pretty good job with the snaps. Early on we didn't do a good job with the crowd noise. A little bit of nerves too. Justin (Anderson, who had two false starts on the opening series) was excited to play and had a couple false starts, and we were kind of stuck on that side of the field with their (Boise State) fans and couldn't flip it. But after the first drive, the first two, I think we were fine and got our no-huddle pace going pretty good. You just can't go three-and-out. That'll kill when you're trying to go fast."

Q: Does this South Carolina defense compare much to BOise? Will there be any carryover (in the no-huddle strategy)?

Bobo: "Yeah, there'll be carryover. They're an over-front team, meaning three-technique to the tight end like Boise was. They go from four-down to three-down like Boise does. So there is some carryover. Boise does a couple different things, which that's every game. But both of them are pretty similar in how they play, and both of them have very good defensive lines and are athletic."

Q: How do those ends (Devin Taylor and Jadeveon Clowney) for South Carolina stand out to you, and what do you have to do when you run into guys like that?

Bobo: "Off the film from last year you can see they've got a bunch of guys that get after the quarteback and sack. Playing East Carolina last week, East Carolina is kind of a dink-and-dunk kind of team and it was kind of hard for them to get a lot of pressure on the quarterback. But the Devin Taylor kid, 98, has made a lot of plays since he's been there. Melvin Ingram is a guy they're moving around a bit, moving him to different spots, kind of like Boise did with 92, the Shea McKellan kid. ... And then the freshman kid, Clowney, is going to be a very, very good player. Like all freshmen he's going to get better every week. Hopefully we can hold him off for one week until he gets better later in the season."

Q: With Isaiah (Crowell) was it the case that you'd like to get him running on the perimeter a little more?

Bobo: "It was. We tried a couple times and thing just didn't happen that way. But he's a guy you want to get in space. I think he's a good runner inside and out. But he definitely can do something with the ball in his hands. If you keep putting it in his hands I think he'll be - like I mentioned with Clowney - I think Isaiah's gonna get better week in and week out and is gonna be a great player for us."

Q: Does (Aaron) Murray have the same number of calls when he gets to the line? Like what changes?

Bobo: "Yeah, we're running our same stuff. We run a little bit different stuff, but it's similar."

Q: How do you think his reads were the other day?

Bobo: "I thought Murray played well. I thought his eyes were in the right spot every time. I thought he was going to the right guy. He was high on a couple throws, but you're not gonna hit every one. I thought he was on top of his game, and going to the right guys."

Q: How many pressures were there on him? We know there were six sacks, but how many pressures?

Bobo: "I don't have that on me, but it was around 10 or so."

Q: What can you do about that?

Bobo: "Well you stay out of third-and-long for starters. Most of the sacks were on third down and long, and pressures. If you're in third-and-long they're gonna pin their ears down and hunt, and we did a poor job of staying out of third-and-long. Against a veteran defense that led the country in sacks last year, and you're in third-and-long, that's not gonna help."

Q: Malcolm (Mitchell) had a strong finish to the game obviously and Marlon (Brown) had the two catches and then not another one. Do you start to evaluate who (you play)?

Bobo: "Oh we evaluate constantly. We evaluate on Sunday and talk about who we need to get the ball in their hands more. We talk about it during the game, and we talk about it constantly. We try to get things to guys that can make plays. That's what this day (Tuesday's practice) was about; it was a competition day, it was guys fighting for jobs, and we came out there and practiced hard. And speaking of Malcolm Mitchell, he had a great day out there practicing."

Q: Is it almost like - when A.J. Green came back from suspension last year everyone knew he was No. 1. Is it going to take a little bit for Aaron to kind of figure out, for you guys to figure out, who those go-to guys are here?

Bobo: "I really believe we've got several go-to guys. I think when their number's called we've gotta make the play. We've got several guys. There's not one A.J. Green we're gonna force-feed. I think you've got a chance to be better when you've got more than one guy. And there's a bunch of young guys that are those guys. We think they are. But they're going to continue to get better every week."

Q: Were you pleased with the way Dallas (Lee) held up?

Bobo: "Dallas did well, Dallas did a good job."

Q: Coach Richt talked about Branden Smith and Brandon Boykin moving forward and getting them in the offensive rotation. How many reps would you like to get them?

Bobo: "You'd like to get them more but we had some issues with cramping with No. 2, Boykin, and Branden had his foot (injury). So it's always easy to say that, but when a guy's down, or his foot's hurting him a little bit, you'd like him this series but he's not (available). I'd like to have them all the time, but they've gotta play defense too, so it's a little difficult."

Q: How are you all going to solve that number issue with (Crowell and Smith.)

Bobo: "They can't be on the field at the same time. That's the only answer I've got. (Laughs). There's no solving it."

Q: Could you all put another jersey on them before the game? Would you all consider doing that?

Bobo: "No. They just can't be on the field at the same time."

Q: Mike when it did go into the philosophy of line it up, look to the sideline, that kind of style, what advantages does that give you?

Bobo: "Well it gives you the advantage of seeing what they're doing defensively. It gets you into the right play. As opposed to, it's easier to see it upstairs instead of the quarterback level, as to how they might be playing in the perimeter. There's still a number of things we do at the line that Murray did. But there'll be some more of we look to the sideline and get that play."

Q: Was that done this spring?

Bobo: "Yes. Yes."
