Kenneth Edmonds got his nickname “Babyface” when he was playing in a band backing up Bootsy Collins. It stuck.

Babyface will be coming to Fort Benning Friday.

Fort Benning officials are expecting a huge crowd, so attendees should leave themselves plenty of time to get on post.

His concert is part of the “BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) to the Future” event.

The post is holding this celebration to mark the end of BRAC, which brought the Fort Knox armored division or Maneuver Center of Excellence to the post.

BRAC to the Future is at York Field on post, in front of the Maneuver Center of Excellent headquarters (formerly called Infantry Hall or Building Four).

Babyface, 53, is a singer/songwriter who plays guitar and keyboards, and is a record and film producer (“Soul Food” and “Waiting to Exhale”). In the late 1980s, he was one of the producers responsible for the “new jack swing” music style embraced by Boyz II Men, Bobby Brown, Karyn White, Pebbles, Paula Abdul and Sheena Easton. They wrote and produced “End of the Road” and “I’ll Make Love to You” for Boyz II Men.”

He began LaFace Records with drummer Antonio “L.A.” Reid in 1989, immediately signing TLC and Toni Braxton.

He wrote and produced “I’m Your Baby Tonight” for Whitney Houston and “Change the World” for Eric Clapton.
