Bands from throughout the southeast will perform at A.J. McClung Stadium this Sunday as part of Battle of the Bands.
Organizer Zeph Baker said this years battle will include performances from local high schools, as well as colleges like Albany State University and Savannah State University.
Theres also a college fair and a step show. Heres your guide to the Battle of the Bands weekend:
Saturday, September 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. - College Fair at Peachtree Mall: Colleges and universities from throughout the southeast will be at this fair to recruit students and hand out information to high school students and adults interested in pursuing a degree. Baker said the fair will include historically black colleges and universities, like Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, as well as majority white institutions, like Auburn University.
The fair is a new addition this year. Baker said they added it to stress education.
We wanted to more than just entertain. We need to teach our kids to value education, he said. It gives the colleges a chance to recruit good students.
Saturday, September 24 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. - Greek Step Show in Columbus State Universitys University Hall: A variety of fraternities and sororities from several southeastern colleges will perform in this step show.
Sunday, September 25 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Battle of the Bands at A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium: Local high schools and colleges will perform in this musical exhibition.
Baker said college band directors get excited about the event every year -- They recruit heavily from this area -- and that the talented musicians featured at the battle make it an entertaining family event.
The talent we have is beyond words, he said.
