Trees Columbus wants you to embrace your inner kid this weekend and go climb a tree.
One tree in particular -- the large oak in the median of the 1000 block of Broadway will be rigged for a supervised tree climb from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday.
Ashley Smith, the assistant director of Trees Columbus, said the group decided to organize a tree climb in celebration of the organizations 10th anniversary.
Its a great way to heighten awareness for trees, she said.
Children ages eight and older and adults can sign up for one of the 40-minute climbing sessions.
Its enlightening to get back up in a tree as an adult, she said.
Smith said the tree has been inspected for safety and can hold about 12 to 15 climbers at once. Climbers will spend some of their session figuring out how to work the climbing harness and manuver in the tree. Once in the tree, climbers be able to move around, Smith said.
She recommended pre-registering for a climbing time (though there will be some walk-up appointments available) and arriving 20 to 30 minutes before your scheduled session. Climbers should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Before climbing, climbers will be outfitted with a harness and helmet and briefed on safety procedures.
For folks on the ground, there will also be an educational tree walk around downtown at noon.
Itll be a great way to get perspective about trees, Smith said.
