Soldiers looking for a change in their recreational activities or with an enthusiasm for boxing will have an opportunity to witness Redemption, an evening of fights Saturday at the West Point Recreation Center in West Point, Ga., about 45 minutes from post.
The fights are hosted by Benson Gold Agency Sports, part of Benson Gold Agency, an athletic training and consulting firm. Ten fighters from BGA will square off against each other in a total of 28 rounds of fighting, beginning at 7 p.m.
Armone Benson, co-CEO of BGA, said Chris Vendola and Dan Sheehan will headline the night of boxing in the main event. Benson said the pair of fighters have a history of dislike for each other from previous fights.
We had to book separate hotels for them, Benson said. Those two guys really want to get after each other. BGA has been a consulting firm for six years, Benson said, and is now looking to revive boxings popularity by creating community events that are both entertaining and family-friendly.
Were starting with the LaGrange and West Point area and then crossing over to Newnan, he said. After that, were talking about the Columbus Civic Center. We want to bring high-quality events that can be enjoyed by families and boxing enthusiasts.
Benson said he also would like to take advantage of the locations of these events to extend an invitation to the Fort Benning community. Tickets for Redemption are $20 for general seating, $30 for the floor and $10 for children. The military rates are $15 for general seating, $25 for the floor and $10 for children 13 and under.
Benson said for Soldiers who are boxing gurus, theres not a more convenient opportunity to witness fights as high quality as Redemption.
Its something different going on, he said. If you like boxing and want to go to an event, you might be able to go to Atlanta to find one. With this, you dont have to worry about going far.
Weigh-ins for the fights begin at 2 p.m Saturday and are free and open to the public. Details of a pre-fight party will be posted at www.dwpromotions.com, where tickets can also be purchased. Details of a post-fight party will be announced during the event.
