Every Oct. 31 the most important question becomes What to wear?
This Halloween, you can be a superhero, a celebrity or even a video game character.
Here are some top costume trends this year:
-- Superheros: Superheros and characters from current movies are always popular costume choices, says Sarah Schmidt on behalf of Kohls. This years top superhero costumes include The Green Lantern, Thor, Captain America and Transformers. Pirate costumes are also popular, since the release of Disneys fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
-- Charlie Sheen: Coin a Twitter hashtag and months later, youre a Halloween costume. Sheens antics and subsequent firing from Two and Half Men put him in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the fastest to reach 1 million followers. Inspired? Put on this mask, available at Spirit Halloween, and spend the night bragging about your tiger blood and Adonis DNA. Winning.
-- Katy Perry: With the success of her hit singles, Teenage Dream, California Gurls and E.T., Katy Perry is another in-demand celebrity costumes. Don this costume and pretend its last Friday night.
-- Smurfs: The success of the Smurfs movie inspired a renewed interest in these 1980s cartoon characters. But you dont have to paint yourself blue. Theres this Papa Smurf costume, available at Spirit Halloween.
-- Angry Birds: Addicted to your smartphone? This costume, inspired by the popular puzzle game, is for you. Spend the evening watching out for evil green pigs.
-- Nursery Rhymes: For babies, animals and nursery-rhyme inspired costumes are always cute, Schmidt says. Dress up your little one as the Itsby-Bitsby Spider or get ready for Thanksgiving with a turkey costume. Both costumes are available at Kohls.
-- Pets: Dressing up Fido? The possibilities are endless, but classic costumes like clowns are popular, available at Wayfair.com. If your dog or cat doesnt like getting dressed up, you can also go with some spooky accessories, like a Halloween dog collar.
