Columbus police are investigating the fatal shooting of a teen Saturday night.
Joseph C. Weeks, 18, was pronounced dead at The Medical Center at 12:50 a.m. Sunday, said Coroner Bill Thrower. According to police, Weeks was struck by a shotgun blast around 8 p.m. at a home near 17th Street and Wells Drive.
When the officers arrived, they had a subject suffering from a gunshot wound to the side, Lt. Lynn Joiner said. There were four subjects there, including the victim.
Weeks was taken to The Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. He died later that night, the lieutenant said.
Everyone involved is between 17 and 19 years old. Joiner declined to release any names at this point.
Investigators interviewed the teens Saturday night and intend to conduct more interviews at the Columbus Public Safety Center.
Youve got to determine whether theres a crime, Joiner said. That hasnt been determined at this time.
