Opelika police are investigating the Tuesday fatal shooting of a man on W.E. Morton Avenue as a homicide.
Police say Jamal Marcel Butler, 18, of Opelika, Ala., died after being shot in the upper torso.
According to reports, officers responded around 3:30 p.m. CDT to a gunshot victim in the 500 block of W.E. Morton avenue. When they arrived, they found Butler behind an apartment complex suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the East Alabama Medical Center, where he died at 4:14 p.m. CDT.
