Now it is up to Muscogee County School District superintendent Susan Andrews.

The eight MCSD high schools were split into four classifications Monday by the Georgia High School Association reclassification committee. This new classification cycle will start for the 2012-13 school year.

Hardaway and Northside were placed in Class AAAAA. Hardaway is the fourth largest school in 5A with 1,418 students. Northside has 1,204. Both are currently in AAAA. (Harris County was also put in AAAAA with 1,160.)

Class AAAAA has 71 schools or 16 percent of the 440 schools in the GHSA. Dunwoody is the smallest school with 1,124 and Allatoona is the largest with 1,426.

Columbus (1,020) and Shaw (908) were placed into Class AAAA, which also has 71 schools. Both are in AAA today. Hephzibah is the smallest at 862, while Wayne County is the largest at 1,110.

Carver, which is currently in AA, will move up to AAA with 740 students. AAA has 70 students with Islands the smallest at 651 and Central-Carrollton the largest at 854.

Kendrick (647) is tied with Pepperell for being the largest school in AA. Jordan (635) and Spencer (600) will also be in AA, which has 66 schools. Wesleyan is the smallest with 350. (Chattahoochee County will move up to AA with 365 students.)

Brookstone (228) and Pacelli (150) will remain in A.

Schools have until Dec. 5 to apply to be moved into a higher classification. The MCSD will likely ask that all eight schools play in AAAAA or that Spencer, Kendrick and Jordan move up to AAA with Carver, while Columbus and Shaw move up to AAAAA with Hardaway and Northside.
