With the recent changes in the Army re-enlistment policy, the Fort Benning Installation Retention Office is helping Soldiers get their questions answered with monthly retention outreach sessions.
The first outreach event, led by Maneuver Center of Excellence career counselor, Staff Sgt. William Cunningham was Wednesday at the Post Exchange.
What we are trying to do is give Soldiers another avenue to get in touch with a counselor, Cunningham said. He said it is important, especially now with changes in the re-enlistment policy for Soldiers to speak with their career counselors.
Phase One affects Soldiers with an ETS date between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, 2012. Soldiers who fall within this date range will have a four-month window, which ends Jan. 31, to re-enlist.
Cunningham said Soldiers affected by Phase One who do not re-enlist by the deadline will ETS.
The second phase will focus on the fiscal 2013 population and is slated tentatively to begin in March and end Sept. 30, 2012 the end of the fiscal 2012. Those with an ETS date occurring during the second phase will be able to re-enlist during Phase Two.
Besides the outreach events, the office also has a Facebook webpage with information about how Soldiers can find their career counselor and updated news about re-enlisting.
