Meyer named new coach at Ohio State
Urban Meyer accepted the head coaching position at Ohio State, ESPN reported Monday.
Meyer was the head coach at Florida from 2005-2010 and left the program because he said he was concerned about his health and wanted to spend more time with his family.
That was less than a year ago and now Ohio State has introduced Meyer to the media as its new coach. Ohio State is facing possible sanctions from the NCAA because of a tattoo parlor scandal that led to the firing of former Buckeyes coach Jim Tressell. The move has left Gator fans, like myself, with many unanswered questions as to why exactly Meyer left Florida, because it doesnt seem as if health issues are a major concern if he is returning to coaching so quickly after his departure from Gainesville.
Syracuse fires Fine amid allegations
Syracuse fired mens assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine Monday as investigations have been launched after a third allegation arose against Fine, claiming he sexually molested boys during his tenure at Syracuse.
A voice recording of Fines wife reveals she knew of the abuse, and a third man came forward saying Fine had molested him nine years ago.
Fine has coached at Syracuse for 36 years. Head coach Jim Boeheim originally defended Fine when there were only two accusers. He said the accusers, who were related to each other, only wanted money. But in the wake of Fines termination and another allegation, Boeheim has retracted those remarks. It could be too little too late as we wait to see how much Boeheim knew of the sexual abuse and whether Syracuse will face the same fate as Penn State did with Joe Paterno.
