Zumbathon benefits Hope Harbour

Published: December 8, 2011

Holiday baked goods have already impacted your waistline, but you don’t want to run. Or bike. Or do any activity that involves extreme weightlifting.

Saturday’s Zumbathon might be your solution. Added bonus: It’s for a good cause.

The event benefits Hope Harbour, a local nonprofit organization that provides emergency shelter and services for victims of domestic violence.

The Zumbathon is noon to 2 p.m. at the auditorium at Open Door Community House.

It has a “Saturday Night Fever” theme, and participants are encouraged to wear ’70s style outfits. Expect raffles and vendors.

New to Zumba?

It’s a fast-paced fitness program that helps you burn calories through dance routines. Zumba classes have a party atmosphere.

If you’re trying the program for the first time Saturday, organizers say there’s no pressure to stay for the full two hours.
