ATHENS - I sat down on Friday afternoon with Georgia athletics director Greg McGarity for what was a previously-scheduled interview for a year-end story. Then the story about Texas A&M's supposed contact with Mark Richt came up, and McGarity spent much of the day trying to put out the fire.
Here's the full text of my interview with McGarity, following the comments you've already seen about Richt's contract, which will be extended the in the coming weeks. Some of the other subjects that were discussed:
- McGarity's philosophy on keeping coaches "on edge."
- Whether defensive coordinator Todd Grantham could get a contract extension, and if McGarity would ever suggest any staff changes for Richt.
- The SEC schedule for next year, which remains in flux. Potentially, the South Carolina-Georgia game could be moved to later in the season.
- I also asked McGarity if he ever becomes involved when a high-profile player is having off-field trouble.
Again, the link to the interview, and hope you find it informative.
