Georgia Pellegrini: City girl turned pioneer

The number one thing I love about the internet: you can click click click and somehow stumble across wonderful stories and information you'd never have found otherwise. All this interconnectedness — I suppose that's the whole purpose of the internet, isn't it?

Anyway, today my clicking and stumbling led me to this article about Georgia Pellegrini's book "Girl Hunter." She's a pretty impressive lady who gave up a lucrative career in finance to go to culinary school and ultimately opted to be a part of every stage of her cooking process — including harvesting her own meat.

I've admired female hunters from afar for a while now, writing a piece for her magazine a few months back, mostly because I'm not one. My husband hunts, I have a bow, but I don't have that drive inside me that points me towards a tree stand. Maybe some day I'll give it a try.

"Girl Hunter" became available for purchase today — I'll hopefully have a review up sometime in the next week or so.

But meanwhile, you should check out Georgia's website.

Among the things I love about it: recipes, DIY home decor ideas and homemade gift ideas. The latter two generally appearing under the heading "Pioneer Skills."

I particularly like this holiday decorating idea using mason jars, spray paint and flowers. I would probably add a clear coat of enamel to prevent chipping. They could also make cute gift receptacles — just fill 'er up and put some fabric and ribbon over the lid.

She has some really cute ideas and insights. I'm definitely looking forward to reading her book.
